Welcome to the Covering Wisconsin Maternal Health Page
This page is intended to help you learn more about health insurance when you’re pregnant, including resources for parents, and outreach resources for community partners.
Starting June 1, 2026, most people who are enrolled in full-benefit Medicaid coverage, like BadgerCare Plus, on the date when their pregnancy ends can get postpartum healthcare coverage until the end of the 12th month after their pregnancy ends.
People enrolled in BadgerCare Plus as a pregnant person or in their 60-day postpartum period on or after May 31, 2026, will have their postpartum healthcare coverage automatically extended to 12 months.
If your postpartum period ended March 31, 2026, or April 30, 2026, and you no longer have BadgerCare Plus or other Medicaid coverage, call your County BadgerCare Plus/Medicaid office and ask to reopen your BadgerCare Plus postpartum coverage for the remainder of your 12-month postpartum period. You can also ask for coverage for months in the past.
Do you have BadgerCare Plus Prenatal Plan limited healthcare benefits for pregnant people who cannot get BadgerCare Plus because of their immigration status or who are in prison or jail? Then, you will get Medicaid Emergency Services coverage after the end of your pregnancy to cover postpartum care for 60 days.
People currently enrolled in Family Planning Only Services or BadgerCare Plus with a premium will be automatically reenrolled into the BadgerCare Plus postpartum category for the additional 10 months.
